Welcome
Welcome to the Horkesley Park Heritage and Conservation Centre website, our vision for an exciting new visitor attraction in Great Horkesley within the Borough of Colchester. Horkesley Park Heritage and Conservation Centre (known simply as Horkesley Park) will be a visitor attraction dedicated to “A Celebration of the English Countryside” through the themes of Agriculture & Food, Art & Culture and Countryside & Conservation. Set on a site of 47.4 hectares (117 acres) on the edge of the Stour Valley just north of Colchester Horkesley Park will create a new venue for tourism and recreation and a cultural centre devoted
to the strong agricultural and artistic traditions for which East Anglia is famous. The setting will be a magnificent new Country Park extending to 41 hectares (101 acres) which will open up access to, and views across, the Stour Valley. Horkesley Park will have local, regional, national and
international appeal attracting visitors of all ages and interests from education to recreation. The Horkesley Park proposals, including the transformation of the redundant tomato glasshouse Nursery site, will be for the enjoyment
and benefit of local people as well as visitors to the area. Following completion of extensive studies and the Environmental Impact Assessment, a Planning Application was submitted to Colchester Borough Council on 18 February 2009, Application No 090231, and is currently in the Planning Application process. The plans will cost over £20 million to bring to fruition. If planning permission is granted in 2009, Horkesley Park will open to the public in 2011.
