Colchester Archaeological Trust

The Colchester Archaeological Trust was founded in 1963 to research into and promote the archaeology of Colchester.  It is a registered charity (no 283354) and a company limited by guarantee (no 1578133).

The Trust employs a full-time professional unit, available to provide developers and others with a full range of archaeological services required by local authorities for planning applications or planning consents.

The Trust is a registered archaeological organisation with the Institute of Field Archaeologists.

The Colchester Archaeological Trust has 25 years' experience of working in partnership with construction industry professionals and local government planning departments. The operational area is primarily Essex and Suffolk.

The Colchester Archaeological Trust provides the following services:

  • excavations

  • archaeological evaluations

  • geophysical surveys

  • building recording

  • desktop studies

  • archaeological monitoring and recording (watching briefs)

  • consultancies

They also specialise in academic and popular archaeological publication, and design and publish all books, reports, booklets, and magazines in-house.
